The Second Edition of Geomorphometry Is Now Published

04/09/2026

The second edition of the book Geomorphometry has officially been released, marking an important update to one of the key reference works in the field. I'm very happy to share that I contributed to a chapter on QGIS and PCRaster, included in a broader chapter that introduces the current software landscape used in geomorphometric analysis.

This new edition stands out for its comprehensive coverage of concepts, software, and real‑world applications. One of the most notable developments is the clear shift toward open‑source contributions. Compared to the first edition, the software landscape now features a much stronger presence of tools such as QGIS, PCRaster, GRASS, Whitebox, and a wide range of Python and R packages. This reflects how open‑source solutions have become central to geomorphometry research and practice.

It's great to see this evolution captured so clearly in the book, and I'm proud to have contributed to a part of it.

Congratulations to all editors and authors who helped shape this extensive and valuable volume.
