QGIS Hydrology Crowdfunding Goals Achieved
We are excited to share that the initial and extended crowdfunding goal for the new QGIS hydrology tools has been successfully achieved. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the QGIS community, we not only reached the initial €6000 target, but also surpassed the extended €7000 goal. This support enables the development of powerful, native hydrology tools directly in QGIS Core, making advanced water-related analysis more accessible to everyone.
The funded work will cover stream extraction, drainage basin delineation, upslope area calculations, groundwater interpolation, and Strahler order workflows, all implemented natively for better performance and integration. These tools will streamline hydrological modelling, reduce reliance on external plugins, and provide a more robust, reproducible workflow for researchers, consultants, and public agencies. Implementation will be carried out by experienced QGIS contributors, ensuring high-quality code, documentation, and long-term maintenance within the QGIS ecosystem.
The features will be implemented by North Road and Lutra Consulting. More information can be found in this blog.
